GLASTONBURY TOR--MAYDAY 2007
This year the Glastonbury Order of Druids celebrated its nineteenth consecutive Beltain Ceremony on the Tor since the order was founded in1988.
There is a special significance to druids in the actual 19 year time span. Known as the Metonic Cycle, after the Greek Meton who first recorded it, it marks the period of 19 years/235 lunations, which the sun and moon take to return to the same position in the heavens.
It probably co-incides with Caesar's geusstimate that it took approx. 20 years to learn the druidic mysteries. In this case it marks the time taken for public celebration of the rites to have become accepted globally.
