Ever thought you might see a Maypole on the green outside the Houses of Parliament ? Believe it or not, special clearance had to be obtained from MI5 and MI6 by the organiser, Frank Somers, for this traditional May Day celebration to take place at all. There was a drum procession over Westminster Bridge, melt your heart maypole dancing from the children and much music and merriment for all who took part, also we were holding the first Mayday ceremony for approx.1500 years on the green slope at the site of the ancient Tot Hill Fair, a place of free speech for millennia before Westminster was even built.
Hopefully this CoBDO event will continue annually on the last Sunday before Mayday.
